As a kid in school, I was called a good ‘story teller’ by my teachers. The only reason was, I was great at pacifying my classmates who would throw a tantrum or shed a tear. Little did I realise that years later I’d be doing the same as an adult. The difference being not in a classroom setting but in a cloudy (pun intended) international space.
My first lecture was in Bangalore at a university where I addressed a crowd of graduates on ‘Getting into tech’ when I myself was only a year or two apart from them. Ignored it for a good amount of time, until I became a casual industry lecturer in a few universities in Australia. Moving out of the academic scene, I got into public speaking at conferences, meetups, podcasts, and company events. Got hooked onto it and then went about sharing my knowledge on company blogs and Medium.
As an accidental PM and still a Software Engineer who codes on one side and sketches with my other side of the brain, I couldn’t stop my hand from sketching technical notes which turned into cartoons about day to day random happenings. My co-workers who were also aspiring to be PMs used to often find my ways of explaining concepts very visual thought not comical always. Yeah, the whiteboard next to me used to be full of my scribbles…this in the pre-remote world.
And now when I see my talks or writings being published online, I have been pondering for awhile about sharing my experience, thoughts, failures, etc. I’m sure it’ll resonate with some of you especially those of you who have a similar simple background. Ergh, if you disagree with my thinking in my upcoming posts feel free to reach out to me…I’d love to hear from you, as that’s exactly what I need to listen to, to keep me going.
See you on the other side ;-)
